"Sanguine" By Elizabeth Elich

Artist Statement

Sanguine examines the tactility of everyday experiences as a way of giving a fresh perspective. Focusing primarily on reproductive and women’s rights, Elich uses real menstrual blood and textiles to convey a common experience while not inserting a specific narrative. This way viewers can reflect on their own experience while confronting their emotions and reactions associated with that experience. Elich's desire is to show work that helps in dismantling shame around menstruation and embolden people to share, speak up and be empowered by these experiences. Sanguine is made up of collagraph prints on paper and woven tapestries, all depicting menstrual blood stains.
