Name that Painting Featuring Charles Culp
OPENING RECEPTION Friday January 10th, 2020 5-8PM
For The Venue’s January’s Gallery Walk
Our First “Name the Painting Contest”
In the art gallery business, in Bloomington, for some obvious and some not-so-obvious reasons, January is our least active month. It begins with the annual University holiday exit and this year is exacerbated by post-holiday consumption fatigue (thank you for your patronage for a banner year) and Sports PTSD.
In order to break this historic and current experience of January doldrums, we at The Venue have decided to initiate an annual “Name the Painting Contest”. This year, and for every succeeding year, we will invite a local artist to create an unusual, untitled painting, and beginning with Gallery Walk (awkwardly the second Friday of this month and this coming Friday) invite you, our public, to come to The Venue, see the painting, and submit a name for the Painting. The winner will receive great recognition and a $25.00 Gift Certificate.
This year we invited local artist Charles Culp to create a painting of an Opossum. Why an Opossum you ask? Well, we just don’t feel that Opossums receive an appropriate amount of respect. They are everywhere in Bloomington, our most ubiquitous marsupial, and are usually only noticed as road kill. Charles has created a truly unique, uplifting painting, which brings a smile to ones face, and honors the species. All we need is a great name, to match a great painting. Come in and share your creativity.
As is our custom for Gallery Walk, we will serve gourmet soup by Chef Dave, and other taste treats. Our regular collection of fine art and gifts will also be on display for viewing and purchase.
