SPARKLE & FLOW

June 7th through September 27th, 2024
Artist Statement from Gail Fairfield:
"In 2019, while on vacation, I attended – by chance or cosmic design? – an alcohol ink workshop taught by
Korinne Carpino. I fell in love with alcohol inks and have been painting with them ever since. Yes, I do a
few watercolors and take all kinds of other art classes, as they arise. However, my passion is for alcohol ink
because of its fluidity, vibrancy, and unexpectedness. I’ve used alcohol ink to make two-dimensional art,
illustrate children’s books, and re-invigorate recyclable materials."

Artist Statement from Maureen Pirog:
"In the five plus years since I retired from IU, I used a good part of my newly found time to learn how to blow and fuse glass. I specialize in making three types of glass. First, I have figured out how to heat crushed glass just barely enough to create sturdy glass bowls and art pieces while leaving enough texture to both reflect and refract light (above). As someone who loves to cook, I have also created a functional beauty line of platters, bowls, sushi plates, among other items to display foods and other items. These items are food safe but are not tempered and should not be placed in ovens, freezers, or dishwashers! All of these items can be found at the Bloomington Creative Glass Center, the Indiana Arts Alliance
Center store at College Mall, and the Venue Art Gallery in Bloomington, IN. I also blow mortuary paperweights (above right) which include the ashes of beloved people and pets.
These pieces are customized and ordered so that folks have control over colors and styles."
